Strategies for Inclusive Teaching:
Below is a list of simple strategies you can do to create a friendly learning environment:
1. Know your students and how they learn
Ask students questions and share stories to learn more about your students’ interests, background and learning style.
2. Allow opportunities for students to learn about each other
Enable students to appreciate diversity and develop an understanding that it is okay to be different. Being the same would be boring!
3. Use community connections and resources
Do you know people in the community that students can connect with? Bring in different people from the local community to share their stories and qualities to the students. This is an engaging and exciting way for students to develop cultural awareness and celebrate diversity.
4. Do not tolerate bullying
Enforce positive language in the classroom and implement a “zero tolerance” for disrespectful and hurtful behaviour.
