Final Year University Students - The process to getting your final teaching number.
You have completed 3 years of university and are in your final year! Congratulations! So what next?
In your final year of university study, you are allowed to start applying for teaching numbers and jobs. It is best to get most of the process done as soon as possible in the year, because as you know, the year will fly by and before you know it you will be wishing you had your casual number for that call from your internship school, offering you work.
Below is a checklist which outlines the step-by-step process to getting your Casual Interim Number, and finally your Approval to Teach. Some steps overlap, and need to be done in conjunction with each other, and therefore it is in an order, which aims to clarify any questions. You will be sent emails from BOSTES and DEC with the specific order of the steps you need to take.
NSW DEC Graduate Recruitment Program (GRP) has great step-by-step instruction with links provided on this website: http://www.teach.nsw.edu.au/grp/application/a-introduction.htm
This website is summarised in a check-list below, with the additional steps to make sure your process goes smoothly!

You will need to make sure your WWC number has an ‘E’ on the end. This means that you have paid the fee, and are approved to work with children in both paid and voluntary environments. You will then take your reference number to your local RTA and pay a fee to get this number. The decision made about your suitability for working with children will be attached via email a couple of days after you have paid. It will need to be update 5 years, from the date of approval.

When you complete this, a certificate will be able to be downloaded. You will need to save a copy of this to your computer, and print a copy out for your files.
This document will accompany your resume when you take it to schools for any work.
